At SKN, we believe lasting change happens through collective effort. By working hand in hand with communities, partners, and volunteers, we turn compassion into action and build a better future for Somalia. Together with our supporters and local communities, SKN delivers hope, dignity, and opportunity—ensuring that every step forward is shared, sustained, and impactful.
Stichting KAALO Nederland (SKN) is an NGO founded in 1994 by Somali-Dutch professionals to support vulnerable communities in Somalia. With a focus on sustainable development, SKN implements projects in education, health, water and sanitation, livelihoods, youth and women empowerment, and emergency relief—transforming lives and promoting long-term resilience across the country.
At SKN, we design and implement community-driven programs that address the most pressing needs in Somalia. Kaalo Nederland is implementing Sustainable Education III to expand access to quality education and digital learning opportunities for students in remote communities across Puntland. Building on the success of previous Sustainable Education initiatives, the project aims to improve learning environments by providing reliable renewable energy and modern ICT facilities to schools with limited access to educational resources. The project will support 10 remote schools by installing complete solar energy systems consisting of 10 solar panels, eight batteries, and an inverter at each school. In addition, every school will receive a fully equipped computer laboratory with 10 computers, together with essential learning materials to enhance teaching and learning. By improving access to electricity and digital technologies, the project seeks to strengthen ICT education, support teachers in delivering technology-enabled learning, and create more engaging and effective learning environments. Sustainable Education III reflects Kaalo Nederland's continued commitment to reducing educational inequalities and ensuring that children in underserved communities have access to the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.

Kaalo Nederland is implementing the Bringing Healthcare Closer: Rural Primary Healthcare Access Project to address critical healthcare access challenges faced by remote communities in Puntland. The project focuses on expanding access to essential health services for communities that have historically lacked reliable healthcare facilities. Caanayaskax Town, located approximately 75 kilometres from Garowe, is home to more than 15,000 people and serves as an important agricultural hub where many families depend on farming for their livelihoods. Despite its growing population and importance, the community has lacked a functional and comprehensive Primary Healthcare Center, leaving many residents, especially mothers, children, and vulnerable individuals, without reliable access to essential health services. Through this project, Kaalo Nederland is developing a primary healthcare facility that will bring essential medical services closer to the community. The center will support the delivery of maternal and child health services, immunization, treatment of common illnesses, and referral support for cases requiring further care. By improving access to healthcare within the community, the project aims to reduce the burden of long-distance travel, improve early detection and treatment of health conditions, and contribute to healthier and more resilient rural communities.
